A CHALLENGE GATHERING THE BEST STUDENT TALENTS IN BIM
Student teams are taking up the challenge of producing a restoration scenario for a building project in the form of a 3D digital avatar, made by using BIM tools and methods.

1st STEP : CEI FOR PUBLIC OR PRIVATE COMMISSIONERS
For this second edition, we are launching a Call for Expression of Interest (CEI) to select "1 partner commissioner and 1 project". Each candidate will have the possibility of submitting their file, their motivations, a draft of BIM specifications and a real project for which restoration work will begin after March 2017.
The purpose of this form of contribution is to allow students to put themselves in a professionnal situation, to understand BIM rules, and the requirements of interoperability and mutlidisciplinary work team through a concrete practice of digital modelling.

2nd STEP: PRE-SELECTION OF STUDENT TEAMS
Students wishing to participate to the 2017 BIM Decathlon will have several months to form a mutlidisciplinary team componed of 4 students from 3 different sectors (architecture, engineering and design, for example) and 1 BIM Supervisor (technical professor, building professional, etc..)
As soon as the team will be complete and their registration will be recorded by the contest organisers (online subscription form), they will start writting their BIM exchange protocol to send before December 2nd, 2016. A jury of expert will examine their file and will judge of the relevance, clarity and coherence of each team's proposal.
The best 6 BIM exchange protocols relected will allow their teams to run for the next step.

3rd STEP : BIM DECATHLON 2017 CONTEST
The 6 selected teams will be in competition from Wednesday March 8th 2017 at 8am to Friday March 10th at noon to produce a digital 3D modelling presenting a restoration scenario both technical and functional for a BIM application adapted to the project. Teams will manage a real public or private order presented in the form of a real BIM specifications.
To concieve and modellise their restoration project, teams will be invited to use software at their disposal. Their must offer the commissioner an innovative, outstanding and realistic project where architectural and using quality, thermal, environmental and sanitary performance of the building will be improved.
4th STEP : ORAL PRESENTATION
On Friday March 10th 2017, each team will have to introduce themselves to a jury of professionals including commissioners to share their scenario proposal and present their approach.
Each team defines on its own who will present the scenario -2 students at least per team- in front of the jury.
By the end of the afternoon, teams will know the result. The leaureate team will recieve a price.
